Polar Planet

Note
Built for a streetwear brand that ultimately didn't launch, because a print-on-demand manufacturing API couldn't be sourced in time. Shown with the client's permission as the fully functional testing build on seeded demo data. The Shopify theme is a self-directed follow-up.
Overview
Polar Planet is a Y2K-streetwear e-commerce build done twice. First as a complete custom storefront and admin platform on Astro, React, and Cloudflare's edge. Then as a pixel-matched Shopify Online Store 2.0 theme with the same fonts, colors, layout, and copy.
Challenge
The brief called for a real custom storefront, not a reskin: a distinct look, a checkout pipeline solid enough for a real store, and an admin that non-technical staff could run day to day. Then: prove the design wasn't locked to a custom stack by hitting the same bar on Shopify's completely different templating model.
Outcome
A production-ready storefront and admin platform running on Cloudflare's free tier, seeded with real product data. Then I shipped it a second time as an installable Shopify theme that passes Shopify's own theme-check linter.
Key features.
- 01Full storefront: cart drawer with discounts, Stripe Checkout, reviews marquee, and login-free order tracking
- 02Customer accounts with order history, status timelines, and a saved address book
- 03Admin dashboard: revenue charts, product CRUD with variants, customers, discounts, homepage controls
- 04Custom Y2K design system on Radix primitives: baby blue and acid lime on cream and ink
- 05Runs entirely on Cloudflare's free tier: Pages, Workers, D1, and R2
- 06Ported pixel-for-pixel into a hand-written Shopify OS 2.0 theme with live Theme Editor tokens
Storefront & checkout
Home, category, and product pages feed a cart drawer with discount codes and Stripe Checkout. Public order tracking needs only an order number and email, and shows the same timeline logged-in customers see.
Admin back office
Revenue and order charts, product CRUD with variants and images, a customer directory, discount management, reviews/FAQ controls, carrier-aware tracking, internal notes, and one-click Stripe refunds.
The Shopify port
A hand-written OS 2.0 theme reproduces the build section for section in Liquid. Where Shopify has no equivalent, it adapts instead of faking it: a localStorage wishlist, contact-form tracking, checkout-applied discounts.
Design system
Space Grotesk display type, IBM Plex Mono labels, hard borders with offset shadows. It started as a shadcn-style kit on Radix, then got reproduced almost byte for byte with the same compiled Tailwind v4 tokens as Theme Editor settings.
